The week before my family arrived, I spent some time in London with Liam while he studied at the Archives in the city. I spent most of my time in the free museums! Below is a slideshow of some of the sights.
Hello, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I just returned to university after being away for the holidays. I will be updating my blog with pictures from my family visiting, New Year's Eve in Brighton, etc. I have one more week left of Christmas break, which I will be spending doing essays… I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
I am on Christmas break now! One of the strangest things about being on break here is the absence of finals before the holiday. I was used to having a few weeks of stress cramming for exams before I could enjoy the season, but here my classes are for the full year instead of a semester, so I don't have any final exams until June. However, I do have ongoing work to do during the month I have off.
Last night was full of Christmas festivities. I attended the History Society's Christmas Pub Quiz with some friends, which we came in last at…but it was fun, especially since some of my professors participated. Liam and I also went to Snowball, which is the end of the year celebration in the nightclub on campus. It was a good way to end my first term at Essex! Hello, I just wanted to wish my pilgrims back home a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I definitely missed spending the day around the table with the family (and the days off I usually get). Thankfully, the pub at the University had some Thanksgiving themed specials, so that was fun after a full day of classes.
I will be updating on this blog at least once a week in case people back home want to know what I'm up to, and just so I can have something to look back on. I haven't really been up to much since my last post. The term is quickly coming to an end, so I have been busy writing essays and studying. I have two weeks left of this term, and then I am on Christmas break! I have a few trips around the UK planned, and then my family is meeting me in London for the holiday! I have to get back to my West European politics essay now… Happy December! I finally got my blog working again! Sorry I haven't been able to post in awhile, but I haven't been up to much due to all the work I have due in the next few weeks. I have less than a month left in my first term here… where has the time gone? I was unable to finish my post about my trip to Oxford and Cambridge, so here is the rest of it! I walked down the main street a bit more and then I had a to meet the bus. It took a few hours to arrive in Cambridge. The photos below are of Cambridge. The town is smaller than Oxford and very quaint. After walking around Cambridge for a few hours, a friend and I stopped in a pub for some chips and a pint before heading back to the bus. What a fun day!
I spent my Saturday roaming the streets of Oxford and Cambridge. The university organized a bus trip to the two university towns, so I took advantage of this great deal (much cheaper than than trains as they can be quite expensive in the UK). After a three hour journey we arrived at our first stop, Oxford. Due to our full schedule, we were only allotted about two hours in the city, so I made the most of it! Please excuse my lack of photography skills- I was running around trying to see everything! I've visited Colchester a few times since I've arrived in the UK. It only takes about ten minutes by bus to get into the center of the town from campus. A few days ago I stopped to admire the thousand year old castle in town... Liam and I took the train into London on Friday to attend a friend's birthday gathering. We got an early start and walked around until we were due at his friend's house. I probably saw only an eighth of the city, but I love it already! Below are some photos of the day...
