Where I am
I"ll be living in Colchester, United Kingdom for the year at the University of Essex. Colchester is a historic town in the county, Essex. It is also the oldest recorded town in Britain! I can't wait to explore the town and see its history. Colchester is about an hour away from London, making the town popular for commuters.
University of Essex was founded in 1964 and has about 11,000 students. The university was ranked ninth in the UK for research and top for social sciences in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise in 2008. Among mainstream British Universities, Essex was also ranked second for overall student satisfaction this year! Watch the cool video of the campus below.
About me
As many of you know, I'm a student at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and this would be my junior year at CUA. I have a whole year here at Essex, and then I will be back at CUA for my last year! I study Politics at CUA, which is what the majority of my classes at Essex are based on.
My experience might be a bit different than the typical student studying abroad. My boyfriend Liam attends Essex as well, so I didn't come here completely lost. We met while he was studying abroad at CUA from Essex, and now he is completing his last year here. Therefore, I have had some help figuring out my new home, but I'm sure I will still have most of the exciting and challenging experiences any student studying abroad has!
